What kind of hamster would be good for my schedule2007-11-24 22:17:17

Well I'm a pretty busy teen, looking into getting a hamster. I have enough time to play with it daily, but i need a breed that is the most low maintenance. Also, I need one friendly around kids cuz i have 4 and 7 year old brothers. And any tips for taking care of it?

a teddy bear. THe average brown ones that you see on TV and in the movies are the nicest. B/w me and my kids we've had like 7 and the best luck I've had was with them. I've had solid white and solid sable colored and they were MEAN! Oh they aren't that expensive either usually around $5-7. Check out the expensive cages though cause I've had BAD experience with hamsters chewing through the plastic ones and getting loose.

There is only 2 breeds of hamsters~serian and dwarf

In the serian species, there is different color variations: many people think the different colors are different breeds, but they aren't.

There is the

Teddy Bear hamster

Black bear

Panda Bear

Rex

and more than that, but those are all of the serian species

I would reccomend a serian hamster to be around kids because they are calmer, slower and don't bite as much

dwarfs are spunky fast and bite alot

I dont agree with margarere, she named 5 hamsters saying that they are all serian, 3 of those she names are dwarf:
