What kind of household food can i feed my hamster2007-11-24 22:17:43

Im talking about food you would just have lying around the house. such as: rice, apples, peanuts, etc?

Answers:

I give them rice, apples peanuts, broccoli, eggs, small tiny amounts of hard cheese, almost all fruits (no acid & citrus ones), just about any veggies (no lettuce, can cause illness that can kill your hammie) Ive given them cat treats as well. I gave my pregnant hamster little bits of dog food for extra protien. I also give them trail mix as long as it doesnt have chocolate or candied fruit in it. No junk food, if it isnt good for you then it isnt good for them.

Fruits, not too much though. Peanuts would be OK. Not sure about rice. Cat treats, dog treats...I give my ham hams cat treats when I don't have anything else.

Any green vegetable - especially leafy ones (e.g. spinach, xiao pai chai, chinese celery and other local vegetables.)

cooked chicken/fish

any sort of fruits, except sour ones like oranges (apple, grape, banana...anything to this effect - mine take durian sometimes!)

carrots (although some owners claim this discolors white hamsters)

alfalfa (this may become more of a bedding than a food source for some hasmters)
