4. Enough money because not only do you have to buy the hutch and stuff but you also need to think about vet bills. For me I spent about $250 - $350 (including guinea pigs) to get started.

Ferrets are the best small animals to own but, they are a lot of work to take care of. They need to play at least 4 hours a day, if you only have one it would need more time out of the cage. They also need a LARGE clean cage to spend 18 hours a day sleeping in. If you do get one you should also ferret proof for things like small holes, chewable wires... They are so much fun too. They are like kittens that never grow up! Guinea Pigs are a lot of work too and there not nearly as much fun as ferrets, ferrets tend to live longer then them too. So basically if your looking for a small animal that's worth the work and gives back a lot of love a ferret is the way to go.

Actually maybe a guinea pig would be good for you. Your guinea pig can be a good companion when your on the internet (if you'll still be on). If you have those bicycle baskets, you can ride with your piggy ^^. But make sure not too long. You don't want your piggy to get thirsty or hungry.
