What kind of rat cage or ferret cage for rats do you like best2007-11-24 22:17:45

look for things like is it easy to get levels out, are the doors in good places to access your rats, is the bottom tray removable for easier cleanings and more importantly can you lift it by yourself should it need a good scrubbing!!

also look to see if the levels (should it come with levels) are solid apposed to wire cause walking on wire all the time isn't good for little rattie feet!

last but not least, make sure there is less then an inch between the bars so that your rats don't go on an unwanted adventure without you. after all, if a rat can get their head threw the bars, most likely their bodies will fit threw as well!

get the biggest cage you can possibly afford, bigger is better

I have a Martins high rise, nice cage but very heavy for lifting and cleaning.

My favorite is a Super Pet deluxe care home. It isn't heavy, the platforms snap out for cleaning and have a pee-trench all around the edge. It has 3 platforms and ladders and is roomy.

One time I had a baby rat in it and since the wires are farther apart than many others, I got some quarter inch hardware cloth and tie-wrapped it to the cage until she was bigger.

They just need lots of room to run about and to hang hammocks and maybe a wheel.
