What makes a better pet: a rabbit or a guinea pig2007-11-24 22:17:48

Just remember, when holding them, they like to chew and they may just chew a hole in your favorite shirt if you are not careful!

They are VERY good with children since they are usually good tempered and also not as fragile as gerbils and hamsters.

They love to be stroked - and even more, love to be brushed! You can find some places, when you pet them, that evoke them to make really cute sounds!

Females get along with each other very well, as long as they are gotten close to the same time. We had one for 6 months before we got our second, and the first one was jealous, but they like each other now! (most of the time!)

Males do not get along in the same cage - even, I'm told, if they are littermates.

They can be taught tricks, if you have time & patience! Just look at the guinea pig in "Doctor Dolittle". He (played by a she) learned some of her tricks in just 5 days!

They are usually very good mothers, whether they have had the experience of watching other pigs or not.

CAUTION!!! If you want your piggy to have babies: for a female, it is VERY important to have her bred BEFORE she is a year old!!

Her pelvis can fuse closed and it may KILL both her and her babies if she can't deliver! A vetrinarian can perform a c-section, but they are often unsuccessful mostly because people wait too long to bring them to the vet and it is too late for all of them by then.

i have rabbits and they are fun 2 have. i luv mine alot. i dont know alot about guinea pigs but i must say they r also good too. in the end its ur decision

i like guinea pigs best. ive had them both. fist of all rabits can bite and kick ALOT harder and guinea pigs only bite if competely neccisary. rabits dont like to be held. i also think guinea pigs can be more easily trained to be nice
