In my experience with hamsters and birds both, newspaper just ends up turning into one big sloppy nasty mess. Even if they do use the litter box, the water bottle drips (never found one that didn't) and it ends up soiling the paper anyway and the ink starts coming off and the paper disintegrates. I'd opt for pine shavings. They're cheap and it goes along way. Not to mention if you happen to miss cleaning it while on vacation or something, it doesn't tend to smell as bad.

Not sure about rabbits and guinea pigs, but I suppose the same would stand true for them as it does for birds (as birds being smaller would most likely make them more vulnerable).. I have 4 birds. I use newpaper to line the bottoms of their cages and a good rule of thumb is to use only black and white printed newspaper. Anything with colored ink is said to be bad for them (such as the ad section for example.) Ocassionally you'll see small ammounts of blue, yellow, and red inks on regular newsprint. As long as the whole page isn't colored, it's a pretty safe bet that it wont hurt your pet. Not sure what adtraders are exactly, but if it's comparable to your daily/weekly newspaper, then it should be okay. Again, just stay away from colored ads. The ink used in them can be toxic and could make your animals ill in large doses.
