What parts of a Broccoli can my guinea pig have
I would steer away from the broccoli family as it has a tendency to cause gas for them.
Veggies like Romaine lettuce, endive, curly green or red lettuces, parsley, or cilantro are better. Good sources of Vitamin C would include green or red bell peppers or tomatoes.
Don't be surprised if your piggie doesn't like fresh veggies at first. Pet stores usually do not give their piggies fresh veggies, so when you try to feed them their veggies, they don't recognize them as food. Keep trying though because they are really good for him. Start out with something like parsley stems since this more closely resembles the hay that they may (or may not) get in a pet store. Also good for your piggie is a bit of fresh grass. If you have an area outside your home where the grass has not been fertilized or treated with insecticides, you can wash this & feed it to him. My piggies love fresh grass. Try to stay away from roadside grass that may be contaminated with car fumes & dirt.
I give my rabbit, hamster and mice both parts. My hamster and rabbit prefer the stems and the mice like the tops. So I would say you can give them both parts, but I would give him the stems just because people are supposed to eat the tops of broccoli.
The whole thing, including the stem. Just make sure to wash the entire thing very well so that you can get all the soil and pestisides off. You may want to trim the outer parts of the stem off just to be safe.
Give him the whole thing!! they love it all
The whole thing!!
