What sex is better for a pet2007-11-24 22:17:20

Is it better to get a male or female pet hamster? i REALLY need to know! which would be better for a 13 yr old girl.

PLEASE HELP!!

Today when I came home from work, my pet hamster, Endive was dead. He was almost five years old, which is a long long time for a hamster. It looks like he just slowed down and died of old age, but he had a good life.

He was wonderful and would squeak to us and to our cats. He had a special friendship with one in particular, named Zephyr.

I've had female hamsters and male hamsters. I have to say that males, in my opinion are much more mellow. Females tend to bite more and are more territorial.

I only felt a special friendship with my male hamsters, Endive and years ago, when I was a young girl, Sebastian, who was also a very good guy.

If your a girl get a male hamster or anything boys are more playfull if u cant play with it 24/7 if not git a female!

ok... animals can smell pheremones and sense things in the same ways that we can, but don't realize we do. its always best for a male to have a female pet and a female to have a male pet. if you are a couple, i'd suggest getting one of each. good luck.

Well it really doesn't matter! When you go to the pet store to pick out your hamster i would pick out 1 of each gender and then ask to hold and pet both of them! See which one is more calm and bites you less! Good luck!

Males like too bite more then females males get procetive over there cages and when you go too grab him he will think you are going too hurt him or his land and he will bite bad a female dont mind much and loves too play and much more active and are not so procetive over there cages

Either would be good but know that if you get both they with have babies and if they have babies it will probably be hard to find them a home but get a young hamster because they will die at about 5 or 6.

Ok! I'm back!! I am 11! I have owned 2 hamsters in my lifetime!! I prefer a male! Why do you ask? Females can be more or even over protective of themselves! They tend to bite more often! I own a male currently and he is 3 mnths old! He is the best1 Nice and calm and he is always perfectly tempered! The female at the store when the worker went to take her out to pet her she was figeting and bit her and the worker had to put her back immediatly! The male hamsters are way better! For any age!
