What should I feed my pregnant gerbil2007-11-24 22:17:27

She's been living with a male for a few months and is really fat. I've heard dry dog food and treats, and also sunflower seeds. Are other kinds of nuts okay?

Answers:

Scrambled eggs(make sure therre not too hot) Bread soaked in Milk,this is great and is also good for feeding her when the little ones come just to get back her engery :)

Also Cooked chicked (without any spices or herbs on it)

If she is pregnant you can supplement her with a dry puppy food (kitten can work too, but puppy is easier for them to digest). Other than that I would just keep her on her regular food, and make sure she has vitamin supplements either on her food or in her water. Good luck!

All gerbils LOVE sunflower seeds! Give her those, and some lettuce, but if you want anymore gerbils, I suggest you seperate the male and the female becuase they breed really fast. Good Luck! P.S. I used to have a bunch of gerbils! I love them!!

First off all do not feed excessive sun flower seeds. These have very little nutrients and are just fattening. The rodent equivalent to eating cookies. Do not feed iceberg lettuce, as if has not nutrients and is mostly water. It will cause diarrhea.

Dog food is nutritionally complete for dogs, not gerbils. There is a diet that includes dog food, but it is not the only ingredient. The diet you may be thinking of is for rats, its called Suebee's diet. I do not know if it is right for hamsters, as they have different dietary needs.

You should feed a good quality lab block, and small amounts of veggies. Choose three different veggies daily, different colors = different vitamins/minerals/etc.

Do not feed too many nuts, they are a treat. Nuts are high and fat and could cause obesity, which will lead to poor health overall.

You best bet is majority of lab blocks with a tablespoon veggies, and feed nuts and seed on a limited basis.
