What should I put in a aquarium cage for my hamster2007-11-24 22:17:58

PS: Don't use the little tunnles, hamsters love them but they are extremley hard to clean.

Do not put newspaper at the bottom of your cage! The ink on the news paper is toxic! If they get to it they could die.If you want extra absorbansy put some clumping cat litter at the bottom under neath a think layer of wood chips(unscented). Do not buy CEDAR wood chip as they can caus respitory problems. You Will ne a wheel because hamsters can run up to 8 miles in a night, not a lie. Tubing is great. They have a wonderful time in it. It is so neat to watch.

There is tons of other stuff you can add But that is the minumum.

Dont buy the fluff bedding that they sell in pet stores. Hamsters can strangle on this, Instead throw in some ripped up toilet paper. There natural instincts kick in and they will go crazy building nests.Toilet paper tubes are great as well. They love them. I truely hope this helps!

i would not recommend a aquarium cage, as it does not provid good ventilation for the hamster, it also does not provide enough climbing activities, as i is very limited.

But since you have already bought it, i would suggest you to place a portable running wheel for it. If you do not wish too, you could purchase a ball where you could bring it out occasionally for it to have enough exercise.
