What should i do
i have a cute hamster called Bruno and i noticed that he has tiny black dot on his skin. i put flea powder on the area where he scratches the most but to no avail. should i give him a bath? but you should only wash it if like a chemical is spilt on him. i dont know what to do.i asked my vet and they said wash him. I'm so scared he might catch wet tail or something if i do deside to wash him. what would you do if you were in my situation where you've taken your hamster to the vet ? please help, and i want to wash him as a last resort. thanks x
Answers:go to the pet store, they have many varieties of soaps and stuff to clean your pet. that would be the best idea
maybe its a tick on your hamster
my hamster died from that. but idk.
A few facts.flea powder can be toxic to rodents because they constantly groom themselves. Bathing will not cause wet tail. Wet tail is because of an internal illness that causes the hamster to have seriously runny poop.
There is nothing wrong or harful about bathing hamsters unless they are exposed to cool drafts when wet(like in front of a fan).
Please don't worry the black spot is normal. Is it at the top of his hind leg, where our hips would be? if so that is perfectly ok. If it is not and you are worried, please don't try to remove it. take him to the vet. I took mine and they are quite happy to look at them but as they are such small animals and don't live very long anyway it may be best to just let him live a good life until his time is up. I can understand your feelings as I love hamsters too. xx
hamsters dont get wet tail from bathing. Wet Tail is a contagious Viral infection that is passed from one animal to another, also its a generic name for diarrea in hamsters and can come from other things. Bath the hamster in warm water and then be sure to dry him very well. He will be fine
Your hamster probably has a tumor. They are common in rodents, and my gerbil has one too.=( I would not start worrying about it though, unless it starts getting bigger. My gerbil started out with a tiny black dot on his ear also. I did not think much of it at first, but then after like a week it was bigger, it kept growing, and now its its hanging out of his ear! My gerbil is 2 1/2 years old though. He is old, and the vet said he will probably pass away of old age before it really affects him. My gerbil is still alive, and eats and drinks normally. So the tumor is not that big of an obstacle in his life, it just looks gross. Anyway, I don't think you should start putting a bunch of products on it if you don't even know what it is. Just leave it alone, and see if it starts to grow. if its a tumor, you can get a vet to surgically remove it. But, unfortunately, there is a good chance your hamster won't make it. I don't know for sure whats wrong with your hamster, but I'm just guessing its a tumor. I recommend that you either wait to see what happens, and how it affects your hamster, or go directly to a vet, and let them look at it.
Good luck with your hamster!=)
