What should i do with a ferret i found outside
... aside from putting up "found ferret" signs around my neighborhood, what should i do with a ferret i found outside in the grass this morning and that i am temporarily fostering? i mean, i brought him inside with me because I'm sure he's someone's pet. he (or she) looks really young actually, it's the smallest ferret i've ever seen. it has long claws which maybe means he's been outside for a while. at the same time he's really friendly and seems domesticated. he came running up to me while i was outside and let me pick him up and hold him without fussing.
i luckily found a temp. home for him, my dog's old puppy kennel, put a towel inside, and gave him a makeshift hammock out of some cloth and a small bowl with water. is there any snacks i can give it, like fruits or veggies?
like i said, his friendly behavior makes it seem like he came from someone's home, but if he's been out in the wild should i be worried about him carrying any sicknesses?
Answers:Feed him high protein low carb food like ferret food or kitten food(not cat food, it's lacking some components ferrets need, like Taurine for heart and eye health).
Personally I wouldn't be too worried about diseases as I don't believe your ferret has been outside very long. Ferrets generally do not survive long outside, due to predators, traffic and climate. Some owners do not know how to properly care for a ferret and thus avoid clipping their nails. That might explain why they were so long.
