The smaller breeds of hamsters are much more energetic than a syrian hamster. So the syrian (or teddybear as you like to call them) sleeps more.
Syrians are the largests of hamsters and although they do like to come out and socialise, they also love their bed! Dwarf hamsters are less friendly, and are very fast and nippy. Syrians are laid back, calm, loving hamsters.
My syrian sleeps all day, and most of the night too!! He has always been the same. He will wake up for a drink, some food, and to come out to exercise for an hour, but he is straigh off to bed after!!
They both sleep during the day but for a first time hamster owner i woulds get a Syrian hamster ( more commonly known as teddy bear hamster) because they are bigger and easier to hold on to!
