What sort of dog biscuits can I give my Hamster Please read for details2007-11-24 22:18:01

Is there anything I should look out for when choosing a dog biscuit for my Syrian Hamster? He is only 7 weeks old.

Any Advice would be great I am going to the pet store after work today to get him some biscuits and chew toys. Hopefully he will like one of them.

Best answer will given to someone who answers the question the best, not the fastest to answer. I am on to you fast answers, I did not know you existed til just recently.

Answers:

It's better for hamsters to have a biscuit that is higher in grains and veggies. They can have some meat, but not too much.

Avoid the ones with garlic and by-products. Also avoid the ones with added sugars, salt, and preservatives.

I feed mine the ones they give away at the register at petsmart, in the bowl on the counter. the small ones, and I still break them in half. they love them.

I would try the tiny green veggie flavored ones. my dog used to get those. and being its from veg. matter a hampster should enjoy them! They are green colored should be able to find em easily.

There arnt really any specific ingredients in dog bones that are better or worse for hamsters.The most reason people give them to their pet hamsters is because its good for teeth when chewing.So pretty much any dog biscuit should do.However if looking for a certain ingrediant try and stay away from sugary treats.These are most often found in store boughten treats for hamsters.A good sliced vegetable or a little piece of fruit should be enough for a good treat :) Hope this helped

Hampsters are forragers by nature and will eat just about anything if hungry enough. The best type of dog buscuit to give is one with liver flavoring or fish. Tuna is a good source of protein for these little rodents too.

Why would you need dog biscuits to feed your hamster use hamster food.

When i got my dogs, my vet told me never to get them anything with pork products in it, so i would stay away from biscuts with pork in them.
