What species of hamster should i get
this is a quote from one of the hundreds of websites.
"The Syrian Hamster is a solitary animal and will not usually live with another past 8-10 weeks of age and so it is important that they are housed separately as serious fighting, even death can occur if more than one are kept in the same cage."
you also say that your hamster if fine with others...which is very lucky if that is the case... but my guess is just that your little hamster is only a baby, if that is not the case and you do say yours will get on...id still say that it is unlikely that you will ever find another Syrian that would accept the hamster you already have. you may give the one you already have to your brother because it doesn't get on with fluffy... but what happens when you run out of brothers... and sisters... and cousins... and nephews... and nieces... and friends... and gardeners... and car washers... see where i'm going with this?
your hamster will be far happier on his own rather than having you keep introducing other hamsters into his environment that will attack him.
please.. for his sake... keep him single.
and also... no hamster is evil by nature... what you put into them is what you get out of them. and as for saying a long haired hamster is more nasty than a short haired... that too is untrue. that is like me saying a person with long hair is more likely to kill me than a person with short hair. ANY hamster can be tamed and handled. your just saying its nasty because the breeder didn't handle it as much as they could have done so its a little bit more difficult for you. that is not a evil hamster... its just scared!
You should not put two big hamsters together. It could lead to a bloody fight and one of your hamsters dead. If you put two of them together, they will fight to one's death. I ADVISE YOU NOT TO DO THIS!!!!!
OK the reason at petsmart they have them together is because they are young and when they become adults they will start to fight! You can't have a syrian hamster with another type of hamster!
