What to feed baby rabbits2007-11-24 22:18:04

My sister found a baby rabbit that our outdoor cat had attacked. It is still alive but it has 2 small wounds on one side, and it's back legs are possibly broken. It is breathing fine and it is just sleeping right now. So we have no way to tell about that. We brought it in the house, but we do not know what to feed it. We think it is about 16 days old. It is in a shoe box right now with grass in it. We will be getting a cage for it tomorrow. The main concern though is what do we feed it??

Answers:

it is to young to eat solid food right now BTW. You need Kitten mild replacer with some liquid vitamins in it. call your local 4-H rabbit breeder for help and advice, but if it is in pain I would suggest putting it down, there is not much you cna do right now and it's digestive system will shut down if it cannot use it's back legs. It may have also suffered some head trauma and may be mentally retarded now so fate happens to be against you. If you still wish to try get the milk replacer and use an eyedropper to feed it to your bunny.

I wish you luck, and I may sound mean but I am trying to prepare you for something that can be heart breaking.

Well i think you should feed it healthy carrots...Not too big not too small..Cause it is a baby rabbit...
Go to the store and buy rabbit food! If you cant do that then give her fruits and veggies! Then take her to the vet to make sure that she does not carry diseases and also be careful until you do that! Do not let her scratch or bite you in any way! Also you may want to bring your cat to the vet also! She may have an infection if the rabbit does!
TAKE IT TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY! IT IS YOUNG AND WILL DIE WITHOUT PROPER CARE! If its not moving its back legs then it has injured its spine and has become paralyzed! it will die very soon if it is paralyzed but take it too the vet anyway please!
Your heart is in the right place first but you may want to take it to the vet to get it health checked. You can feed it hay, seed (not too much about half a cup) and veggies although if it's only about 16 days it may need rabbit milk take it to the vet and good luck.
As far as food goes, feed it kitten formula. Chances are, however, that if it is wounded it won't live. Cats have a lot of bacteria in their mouths and if the puncture wounds are from your cats teeth, there will more than likely be an infection. Also, if its back legs are broken, that is a lot of trauma from which it might not recover. You may consider taking it to the vet to have it put down if it seems sick or in a lot of pain. The website below has a lot of information about baby bunnies. I hope your little one ends up okay!
You could try feeding it milk or baby carrots. If it's teeth are fully developed, you could try rabbit food like pellets, but if the wounds get worst you should go to a vet!
