What type of hamster should i buy2007-11-24 22:18:06

I'm getting hamsters today, i want hamsters that are social with humans and with eachother and dont fight or bite, i have a medium size cage, without bars its plastic. I want the hamsters to be kind of small but not too tiny and fast that you cant hold them what should i get??

a syrian hamster also known as the teddy bear or short haired hamster :) they are more tolerant than dwarfs.

but you cant place two of them in a cage since they will fight.

dwarfs are quick and not the best choice for beginners but you can have 2 in a cage and they wont fight as much

i owned a regular size hamster growing up and it had a tooth like a walrus. then i owned two dwarf hamsters who never bit. and they are not too small either.

Don't get a hamster if you want my advice. They kinda smell and they make a lot of noise at night.

a chinese hamster, they dont bite if you dont hold them you se THEY DONT LIKE TO BE HELD. hamster are very teritorial that's why you cant really have to in one cage one in each cage. pet stores are just horrible with that. OH make sure it's a small one because the bigger ones means they are older and they will not last long.

Do NOT get dwarf hamsters. Those things suck. Every one of them I have ever seen bite. I'm not sure of other types of hamsters. Go to the store and just look at all of the different breeds. Pick them up, hold them. Which ever ones are friendliest, go with them

get the brown/ black ones. i used to have them, there funny and fun to play with (they try to escape from their cage and it looks funny). dont buy 2 ,they fight

i had a black bear hamster, they r the niceist. at first he was trying to bite the guy who was getting him out of he cage but he never actually bite him, he just looked lik he was going to, so if urs does that, i wouldnt worry. my hamster lived for 5 years, and he was the sweetest thing. so i strongly suggest black bear hamsters. they r really cute to!! good luck!

I would go with a black bear hamster. Siberian hamsters are very small and fast and you said you wouldn't like that. Golden hamsters don't always have the nicest personality. Teddy bear hamsters are very friendly but their hair can get so long and can get bedding caught in it. I've had only 1 black bear hamster and he was a delight. Very friendly, not too fast. Teddy bear hamsters are just as great though. Just clean out their hair on occasion. Good luck!

i dont think you can get hamsters that were not born together. if they dont know eachother they will maybe fight. i had a dwarf hamster once but it died i whas so sad );
