Like a preivous poster said, it takes time. Cages side by side for at least two weeks, then every day while the cages are side by side, switch them back and forth.

You can do playtime, just make sure it is somewhere neither one has seen before (neutral). Then adding a dust bath as a distraction will also help. A little bit of fur slipping or domanice humping is normal. You don't want them standing up on two legs or teeth chattering,, that means they are getting set up to fight.

Morning is the best time to intro them as well since they are sleepy.

Here is an excellent forum that has tons of information about chinchillas.

I have two male chinchillas not from the same family, not housed together, but I let them out to play together. My one sometimes torments the other, so I prefer keeping them housed separately, but when I moved a couple months ago I put them together in a smaller, temporary cage and they did alright. From what I've read, you just need to keep them in a large enough cage so they can have their own space and get away from each another when they want to. Nobody can say for sure what will happen because every chinchilla has a different personality - they could get along great or fight non-stop. You'll just have to keep an eye on them at first and see how they do. If one of them seems stressed, you could try a larger cage, but if that doesn't make a difference, then I would house them separately.
kill each other. But just to make sure, you should get 2 seperate cages, then place them beside each other. If they don't fight, or snap at each other, you can put them in the same cage.
One word: WAR!

The secret to keeping rodents are not to mix the same sex especially if they are not from the same family... and since males are the most aggressive and territorial, they will certainly fight, sometimes to the death. It is not worth risking the life of one of your chinchillas. I have two males from different families, and i have a very large cage which i separated in half. they still have each other's company, but when allowed together (i tried once and never again) they attack.
