What will make my two guinea pigs happy during play time2007-11-24 22:18:33

One just likes to hide in the igloo so I took that and any kind of tube out. He can rest in his cage. Is that wrong of me? Or should I give him the tube and igloo back during play time?

Answers:

guinea pigs need somewhere to hide where they feel safe, like his tube or his igloo so i would suggest leaving them for playtime just in case something scares him.

when did you get your guinea pigs? it takes a while for a guinea pig to get completely used to being around humans and they're always a little skittish.

I'd suggest you keep his pigloo/igloo on the floor, so he can hide somewhere if he's scared. But, do encourage him to come out and play, as floortime is needed to make a healthy guinea pig.

One trick I learned to do during floortime is to get some newspaper, crumple it up slightly, and toss it on the floor with them. Some pigs with go absolutely nuts and start popcorning around in it and playing, while others might just ignore it. It's worth a shot :) And it gives them an alternative place to hide while they're out playing.
