i'm getting 2 new baby rats on saturday. what do u think is the best kind of cage for them?

since rats are tunneling animals, you can always use one biggish cage, for main area, and use non cloth tubes to connect lots of littler cages into mazes and stuff.. they like that..

Cloth tube wouldn't be the best idea as they'd more than likely chew their way right out. Ya should never trust a rat not to chew.. lol Though you can use pvc pipes. I have pvc pipes for mine and they love em and are soooo durable.

mine surely would.. mine chew everything...all my pj's have holes cause they always play on my bed with me.. thats why i said non cloth (non cloth means no cloth at all).. right now im building a cage of my own, im using a 25 gallon tote box for the "main room" and a small pvc pipe maze..but if u do use pvc, be sure to use plastic and not metal cause it can make them sick, and use screw on, not tube pasters(the ones without threads), that way its easier to clean when your rat makes "messes".

If you do make your own cage, wash all the peices in CCM ((see below for directions)) or the resadue from the factory, shipping, ect. can make them sick.

(((homemade mix: 3 parts white distilled vinigar, 1 part bleach, 6 parts hot water... this can be refridgerated with a 6 month shelf life, and heated in a pot on a stove, dont nuke(microwave) it)))

You should get a sort of fish tank w/ a screen on top of it so they wont climb out. Put stuffing on the bottom, and add a shelter like object a running wheel and maybe a screen to seperate some mice, just in case they wanted some action or they fight. Godd Luck w/ ur mice!

I would get a rodent cage first while they are small and then upgrade to a small ferret cage. If you get the ferret cage now they could get through the bars.
