Whats the best kind of GERBIL cage
I am getting a gerbil but need a GREAT cage that is easy to clean, can fit 2 gerbils with still lots of room to run around, that is good quality and is overall great for GERBILS...
Answers:a ten or twenty gallon long fish tank works best with a screen top. Lots of room and not likely to escape.
Gerbils love digging and chewing. Plastic cages are a definite no-no. You could go with wire cages as they offer nice ventilation but, be prepared to clean a mess around the cage daily as the gerbils will kick the bedding out.
A large aquarium is nice. You can put down a lot of bedding to allow for digging and tunneling. The only problem with them is ventilation. If you live in a particularly humid area then you might want to go with a wire cage.
Good luck on your new gerbils! I am happy to see that you researched them enough to know that they are social and need a friend.
Try not to get those that 'nets'. They love digging and will accidentally throw all the bedding out of the cage and of course,
it's gna dirty the whole place! You wouldn't want to have extra clean up to do. :)
I wish I helped.
a 10 gallon or 20 gallon tank would best suit them. easiest out of all rodent cages to clean, lots of room for them, and i have 2 gerbils myself and have a 10 gallon tank for them. they can't escape and the bedding doesn't get kicked out. it's great, and overall greatness for gerbils. the all-time best gerbil cage.
An aquarium or a terrarium would be a good option. It should have a minimum length of at least 80 cm, but bigger is better. I think about 100 cm length would be best. If you want to give them even more space, you could think about building a second storey out of wood. Then they can run around lots and climb.
Don't forget to have a lid for the aquarium! Gerbils can jump up to 50 cm high... The easiest lid to fashion is to build a frame of wood and covering it with wire. The gaps in the wire should not be bigger than about 12 mm, as gerbils can squeeze through bigger gaps. :)
I wish you lots of fun with your two gerbils. ^^
I would go with a large wire cage or a medium size fish tank. They really like those little exercise wheels too. A home large enough for them to move around, have food and water dishes, and an exercise wheel is a good rule of thumb for size.
