whats the best type of food that is really good for them and has a ll the minerals that they need??and whats the best type of snacks and treats??

I would suggest the mixes with all the seeds and hard pieces because they are very healthy for a hamster!! For the treats I would get any brand of yogurt treat for them. I also get these balls that a blue then on the inside they are red.

There are two types of hamster diet: mash and pellet. Mash diets are commonly sold in stores, and consist of all types of seeds that hamsters like, as well as a few pellets and some crunchy treats. Hamsters love the variety in this food, and are quite fond of seeds. Pellet diets consist of only pellets of food.

Pellet diets are thought to be better for hamsters. If fed a mash diet, the hamster will pick out only the seeds and bits he wants to eat, and may not be getting a balanced diet. If fed only pellets, he must eat the pellets and therefore is guaranteed a balanced diet.

I would recommend a pellet diet, and you could give seeds as a treat. Buy a small bag of a mash diet, and give them a few seeds out of it every couple of days. Hamsters also love yogurt drops and seed sticks that are sold in stores. If you put a seed stick in the cage, they will just eat that and ignore the pellets. I used to purchase a seed stick (which is all types of yummy seeds stuck together with honey) and bang it with a hammer (in a ziploc!) to break it into all little bits, and I would use the little hunks as treats.

MilkBones are also a good treat and help keep the hamsters teeth down. Dwarf hamsters especially seem to dislike chewing on wood for their teeth. Buy a small box of MilkBone small bisuits and crunch them up a bit. I used to put one hunk (maybe 3/4 inch big) in each cage for each hamster twice a week.
