Answers:I'm seconding the answer about blocks from the pet stores! They've got a ton of wooden toys and wooden perches that rats can chew on! And the bit about wood from friut trees is good too. Just make sure you wash the wood from your yard first.
You can buy wooden toys at the pet store that are safe for your rat. If you are looking to just pick up a few sticks from your yard, wood from fruit trees (apple, peach, pear, etc.) is safest. Stay away from evergreens (pine, cedar, etc.) because they are toxic. Also, be careful of some hardwoods.walnut can be dangerous, but maple and oak is okay. Also, don't use wood from the hardware store...most of it is treated with chemicals that are poisonous to your pets.
