Whats wrong with my hamster2007-11-24 22:18:16

He seems restless?We recently got him a new cage but hes always just laying around but hes not asleep his eyes are open.What is wrong with my baby boy???

Please tell me!!

First, I would advise you get a book about hamsters from the library or pet store. They can tell you all about hamster behavior.

The hamster might be scared. Try feeding him some strawberries, or carrots. Hamsters love those things. They love broccoli too, but if you leave it in there too long and he doesn't eat it it will stink!

Buy him a hamster stick from the pet store to chew on. A little stick from a tree would work too. They love to chew, and they also love to climb on things. Try buying a little ladder from the pet store.

Also, if you don't have one of these already, it is a MUST for a hamster: a little hamster ball from the pet store. It is great exercises and they love to run in it! He might just not be active enough.

Usually if a hamster is sick they will have bald spots in their fur, a runny nose, diarrhea, etc.

Let your hamster explore around the cage and try to feed it its favorite food.Probably the cage has dirty beddings or give it fresh food and fresh water. Don't give it too much water because hamsters are not really meant to drink alot.Also at night see if the hamster gets wild. Give your hamster a little time to go around.If non of these work take him out of the cage and let him walk around the house'but keep both eyes on him.Just give your hamster time.
