Whats wrong with my hamster2007-11-24 22:18:43

I just got a dwarf hamster from the pet store 4 days ago. The first day I let it get used to its new surroundings. It wouldn't eat its food or drink water unless I bring the food/water to it. It doesn't use its little exercise wheel either. I had a cage made with all metal bars and I don't think the hamster liked it (it kept slipping through the bars) so I bought another cage made of mostly plastic on the third day (yesterday). All it did yesterday was grab lots of the CareFresh at the bottom of its cage and bury itself in this little house-thing I had bought it. Today all its done is sleep. It's breathing fast and curled into a ball. Everyday before today it would run away or something if I tried to touch it and yesterday it bit me since I kept trying to play with it, but today it didn't run or move even when I touched it, or when I picked it up. It just lays there, it has sniffed around some and drank a little water when brought to it but thats it.

Whats wrong with my hamster?

A hamster that is experiencing hair loss should be seen by a vet. You say he isn't eating? or drinking. Have you seen his droppings? Do they look normal? Do you see evidence of urination? He may be having difficulty eating because of overgrown teeth or an underlying health problem but there is really no way short of having him checked by a vet to know what is going on. Hair loss is a sign that it could be serious and he should be seen as soon as possible.

it could have wet tail ...its a disease in hampsters ...im not lying i had a hampster that had it and it died a day later i think it might b alright if it hasnt died yet but maybe its just the hampsters personality...im being dead serious its a real disorder

i think your hammie is still getting adjusted. give it few more days and see if hee starts acting normal. I dont know about the fast breathing, if youre worried, you shoud take it to the vet and get it checked out.
