When I bring it home, how long should I wait to pick it up and pet it?

Answers:

You should give your new arrival at least 24 hours to settle in and adjust to its new surroundings. After this you can slowly put your hand in, at a horizontal level so as not to scare him/her and remember to bring a food treat every time you go and see him/her. Slowly your guinea pig will become curious and will come to smell your hand, this is the time that you should begin to pick up the little piggy. Try not to pick up her/him every time you go and check on her/him but do have cuddles every day. Remember to have floor time too!

Well I pick them up shortly before butchery. They are pretty tasty but are kind of expensive from the pet store. No, they are not like chicken either--just a different kind of delicacy from a Peruvian recipe.

When I got my Guinea Pig I picked it up wright once I got it in my room, he is Super nice so you don't have to wait at all if you want them to turn out nice, the mean ones are barely ever touched.

Twenty minutes to a half hour is what I have always done, so that it can get used to its new home and be less scared. How would you feel if you just moved into this really nice house with strangers and right away you had to do stuff, without even seeing your new house? Oh and, have fun with the guinea pig!

Quarintine it for about 3 days. Those three days will be used to get used to their new home, and you also. Don't bother thre pig during those three days, but maybe talk in a soft voice to it, and give it a name.
