When can I start playing with my hamster2007-11-24 22:18:17

Okay, so yesterday I adopted a 3 week old teddy bear hamster named tad, but the people at petco said I can't play with it for a week, and I really don't wanna wait that long. What should I do?

the petsore is right. i know it's hard to wait but it is best for the hamster. he could get scared and that could cause diereah and cause him to get sick or worse die. just talk to him in a suthing voice and in a week gently hold him a little each day so he can get to know you

A week is too long! You can start to pick up, pet, play with your hamster ect. tommorow. Your hamster needs one FULL day to get used to his new cage, new food bowls, new water bottle, ect. Tommorow, I would recommend that you put your Tad's hamster cage on the floor. Take the cage lid off. Let Tad run in the room, or, in a certain spot. Just make sure that where ever Tad runs, you can't loose him or anything! I would recommend that you get A HUGE box. Line it with newspaper. Put some hamster toys in the HUGE box. Let Tad run around in it! He will REALLY enjoy that! OR, can buy a hamster ball for Tad to run in! Or, even do both! Just make sure tha Tad isn't out of his cage for too long, or, else, he will get VERY tired! I would recommend that you let Tad out of his cage for about 5 minutes every day, for, the first week! Then, you can start to let him out for at the most, 10 - 15 minutes! I hope that this answers your question! Thanks, and, good luck with Tad,
