Start by checking exotic pet shops would be a good start. You may have to order one through a pet shop. Seems a lot of people are confusing european hedgehogs with african pygmy hedgehogs. There's a difference. European hedgehogs are illegal in the u.s because they can survive out in the wild. Only a few states disallow african pygmy hedgehogs. I'm pretty sure wisconsin isn't one of them. Hedgehogs are not dangerous animals. I've included a link to a very good website that you can look at and see if there's a hedgehog breeder close to you. There's quite a few breeders on that site that can point you in the right direction. I own two hedgehogs and I can say they're great pets!

To be honest I don't think you can buy a hedge hog they live in the wild and it would be cruel to keep them as a pet, but I'm sure if you go to your local wild life center you could become a foster parent until the hedge hog was ready for the wild again. Good luck Lynn

Okay these people are wrong, I have one, and they are not dangerous. I live in New York State and there is an exotic pet store for animals just like these, but I'm sure if you go to some pet stores, they may have some and maybe they will even fly some in for you, thats what they did for me! They are really friendly and get used to their owners very quickly.

I'm not sure if this is a state you can buy hedgehogs in but I happen to know they are awesome pets. Mine's name was Thistle and anytime she'd smell me come into the room she'd come crawling out of her ball to see me. They make very loving pets. You just need to make sure you have the time to spend with them.

There are many licensed breeders that sell quality hedgehogs. I have in the past bought from pet stores when they were first popular and have had problems as far as socialization and tameness. But with a little TLC I was able to tame mine.
