Where can I buy healthy pet odor control bedding in Canada (or better in Toronto)2007-11-24 22:18:32

I'm looking to buy it either online or at a store. Of course at store near where I live would be ideal. But if not possible, I don't have any problem buying it online as long as they ship to Canada. My mom is quite sensitive to smell so I have to do everything I can to make it more endurable for her, if I'm to buy a hamster (and I really want to).

Resist the urge to buy wood like pine and cedar because they have smells. They are not good for your hamster. Get aspen, hemp, or paper based beddings. If you clean it out with warm soap (and bleach once a month) the cage should have little to no smell at all. If your hamster is, for some reason, smelly, you can buy Chinchilla Bath Sand (not dust). Your hamster will roll around in the sand, loosening dirt and oils.

You can also reduce the odor by litter training your hamster. The litter box and litter can be found in most pet stores. Place it in a corner where your hamster likes to pee, throw some pee soaked bedding into the litter box, and soon your hamster will know where to go. The pee is the smelliest part of hamster owning, so if you can concentrate it into one litter box and clean it often, you'll get rid of a lot of smelliness.

Most pet stores will have the bedding and bath sand. I live in Mississauga but frequently visit Toronto. PJ's Pet Centres are the best for stock & prices.

Umm well the thing is if you have a petco or petsmart or even walmart they sell this bedding called carefesh, i swear by that stuff. i have my little dwarf hammie in a 20 gal aquarium and i change her cage maybe once every two weeks!! her tank never smells!! you can also order it off www.petco.com or www.petsmart.com
