Where can I get a 6 month old guinea pig2007-11-24 22:18:53

someone please tell me where I can get one!!! my 12 year old guinea pig just passed away! I'm LONLEY!!!

Well, first of all. You need to have a pair of guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are social and will live more happily (not necessarily longer) with a friend.

The best place to look is your local animal shelter. If you give me your local area (like near a major city, like I'm near Toledo, OH and Detroit, MI), I can find a great adoption center near you.

Please, don't buy from a pet store, even your local mom and pop store.

There are thousands of guinea pigs that need homes each year because their owners (who mostly bought from pet stores) no longer wanted them. I too had no idea that animals in pet stores were so mistreated until I made the mistake of buying one. I adopted 3 more after being informed on the subject by very caring people.

You can probably get one at Petsmart and they do not cost very much. I am not sure what age they are but they might be 6 months old.

I would check out your local animal shelters. And I would also say you should get two, as they are social animals. Just make sure that you get two of the same sex, as you don't want to deal with babies..and as long as they are young you CAN put multiple males together!

Maybe at a Cavy/Guinea Pig show. You can look online at the American Cavy Breeders Association website and find local shows. Most people have younger ones for sale at theses shows.
