Of course, some pet stores are actually quite good, and some shelters are less-than-good. But believe me, NO pet shelter would ever give you a diseased animal (much less a rabid one--that's just silly).

that is so not true. at PETSHOPS they are usually diseased and rabid animals. animal shelters would be better. you should check petfinder.com and rescue a gerbil :)

It's always better to get a pet from a shelter because pet stores tend not to care for their small animals. They frequently missex their small animals so quite a few people could be coming home with babies. If you can't find any gerbils at your animal shelter, search on petfinder.com

Well, since you are getting another gerbil, for a companion for your other gerbil, then, to be honest with you, it's best just to get one from the pet store. Now, I may be getting thumbs down, but, it really is best. Since, they might be litter mates. But, the animal shelter's pets, don't have any diseases. They are actually healthier then the pet store pets. I would normaly tell you to get a gerbil from an animal shelter, but, since you already got from the pet store, and, you want one for a friend for your other gerbil, then, you should get another one from the pet store. Now, if you wanted to get one just for you, and, not for a friend for your other gerbil, then, I would say get one from your local animal shelter! Or,: www.petfinder.com. Thanks, and good luck,

Ok honestly everyone says dont get them at petsmart or whatever i have gotten 3 hamsters from there and none have had problems and neither have my friends hamsters and gerbils so you might as well egt one from petsmart or petco or whatevers closest
