Where to get a friendly hamster

Where to get a friendly hamster2007-11-24 22:19:03

I was thinking about getting a teddy bear hamster (I had a fancy one and it wasnt very nice but i was little). I want to get one young and I want to get it so it gets attached to me. I dont know if Petco and Petsmart would have nice ones would they? Where should I get it if I want a nice one?

Best place to get a well bred hamster is from a reputable private breeder. Second best place is from a private pet store (not Petco or Petsmart or Petland - a local, mom and pop kind of pet store) that gets their hamsters from private breeders. You do have a fine chance of finding a well mannered, healthy hamster at the chain stores as well though. Make sure you ask to hold and interact with the hamster for a few minutes before you decide to buy. If they hamster has bright, shiny eyes, seems okay with being picked up or handled, and doesn't nip, chances are it's fairly healthy and well tempered. Remember, alot of a hamster's behavior is up to you - and how you tame and train it.

Remember to check www.petfinder.com, they have loads of syrian hamsters for adoption, and alot of dwarf hamsters, too. These hamsters are usually being fostered, and will not be adopted unless they are well tempered. The fosterers should know more about the hamster's temperment and behaviors.

pet supplies plus...I got one there and its very friendly.
Go to petco and hold and pet the hamster and see if u like the hamster and get it! Be very gentle and patient with your hamster! Make sure you let your hamster gets used to its new cage for at least 24 hours and that you wash your hands before play with your hamster! First pet your hamster on the second day and then hand feed your hamster and stuff! I would do some research so you know more!
I'm sorry, but good luck on that one. Hamsters are not known for being friendly, ever. If you want to get a rodent pet that is highly social and can even become effectionate I highly suggest a RAT. They have a deep social structure and can be very easy to handle. I have personally handled hundreds of rats and I have only been bit three or four times.
Maybe from the friendly Hamster Store. Just kidding!!! lol
