Which do you think make better pets: mice, or rats2007-11-24 22:19:36
So happy you are considering a rat!
I have asked a million questions on rats, you should go to my site and look at my questions, they will surely help you out!
Tell me if you decide on a rat, via e-mail. thanks!
RATS ALL THE WAY!! Rats are one of the smartest rodents. With patience and treats, they can learn to come when called, play dead, shoot a basket, climb ropes, etc. They LOVE people and should be kept in pairs unless you can spend at least 6 hours a day with your rat. Males have a slightly odd smell, but not as near as bad as male mice. The main difference between males and females is their energy level. Males will sit on shoulders, laps, etc and fall asleep. Females rarely stop moving, they love to climb all over you! Males also are a little bigger. I have owned both males and females- Ratcy, Brownie, Butterscotch, Clover, Cody. My friend had mice and I helped with them all the time. They were very timid and got freaked out when she stuck her hand in the cage. My rats on the other hand were eager to come out all of the time! They truly are people pets and bundles of fun! Plus, they have a longer life span than mice, 3-5 years!
Hope This Helps!!
Both make good pets but rats are more on the cuddly side. I've owned both and would tell you that it really depends on your life style which you should get. Do you have lots of time to spend with rats? They need more human contact than mice do.
