Which is a better better pet, a hamster or gerbil

I've had several hamsters. I prefer dwarf hamsters, especially since they are so small, cute, and easy to take care of. Hamsters often bite, but you need to tame them! I recommend leaving some food into your hand, SLOWLY and GENTLY lay your hand on the bottom of the tank. They might bite your hand, only because they think it is food. Soon they will find the food and crawl into your hand. Don't raise your hand, instead allow your hamster to crawl out. Do this daily, and soon it'll trust you. You should also reward it with food (sunflower seeds are one of hamsters' favorite foods) when it crawls into your hand without you leaving food. Another helpful thing, is don't make any sudden movements!

Female hamsters are more active than males, but less friendly than males. Males are less active than females, but more friendly than males. Hamsters are definitely entertaining to watch run the exercise wheel, run in the exercise ball, ect.

The past gerbils I've had are less fun than my hamsters. They are also much messier, since they dig and kick their bedding a lot. So if you don't have a tank, you might have bedding all over your floor. They also chew alot, so if you get one, leave lots of cardboard in there. They also like to dig, so if you'd like, fill up your cage with loots and lots of bedding. My past gerbils never rode on the wheel or the exercise ball. Whenever I had food in my hand, the gerbil would crawl on and eat the food. As soon as I slowly raised my hands, they immediately jump off.

Not trying to be mean, but hamsters are stupider than gerbils. But, that's what makes the hamsters cute. Hamsters are also less wild than gerbils... that's why many gerbils don't trust their owners. I also recommend getting a tank for your hamster.
