Which is better Hamsters, gerbils, or chinchillas2007-11-24 22:19:40

I don't know much about gerbils, so yeah...

But for hamsters, you clean their cages, play with them, feed them... They aren't high-maintenence, but if your roomies are party animals, you could kill one of stress. If not, I'd say go with a hamster.

In my opinion a chinchilla would be your best bet from the conditons youve told us. They are loveing and sweet and arent as grouchy as those little biting hamsters. Although not all hamsters bite. Have fun with your new furry freind!

Personal experience, I've found hamster tend to bite more, chinchillas require a larger cage and can have odor problems, and gerbils I've had good luck, most seem not to have the tendency to bite. For expense in care gerbils and hamsters are more reasonable. Another good pet is a rat. Hamsters, gerbils and rats can be kept in a tank, this helps so litter doesn't go flying out and when cleaning needs to be done glass is easy and bars take up some time. Make sure they have plenty of chew toys, fresh water and a wheel for exercise is great.

I know that this is not one of your choices, but guinea pigs might be a possibility. Hamsters are little escape artists, gerbils are pretty boring, and chinchillas aren't that cute and require expensive care. Guinea pigs are fun to cuddle with, and they continue to make me laugh. They do require vitamin c, so u have to read up on them first. here are some good sites. Good luck!!
