I like hamsters i have never had a chinchilla or a gerbil but i have had a lot of hamsters and they are so much fun. They are incredibly fun to watch and to play with. I loved my hamster alot, his name was Whiskers and he was the friendleist little guy. Their cages don't take up alot of room, but you do have to make sure their clean. Well i hope i helped!! =]

Well, since you want a small cage, a chichilla is out of the question. Now, were down to gerbils and hamsters.

Okay, lets see, hamsters LOVE to bite and sleep, but gerbils tend to be jumpy and too active for cuddling. I think gerbils and hamsters aren't very cuddly. Gerbils like to get away too much, and hamsters like to bite too much. Although I've had a horrible experience with a hamster, I still think you should get one. Their more prone to cuddling, but their also prone to escaping. Yes, escaping. They always find a way to get out of their cage and wander around.

Ideally, gerbils and hamsters are only good for sleeping and eating, or for snake food. I suggest you get fish instead, quieter, easier to care for, and more ideal. Only fish don't like to cuddle! lol! :)

Overall, If you REALLY want to get a rodent, I'd suggest a hamster, since they'd PROBABLY be more cuddly. Just watch out for those constant bites! And like I said, chinchillas need BIG cages.
