I've owned both but I'd say a rat. Mice die faster and easier. They're little esacpe artist and almost impossible to train. With rats you can handle them better. Very smart, and you can take it out of its cage and it wont try running away. They are easy to train and very loyal to you. They live alot longer too..

if you want a small rodent go with a gerbil they don't bite or if you would like a big er rodent a Guinea pig i have one and love it is so cute and i can watch TV with it unlike most rodents i would not sagest a rat or a mouse cuz they bite and need cons ant Actaeon

I like both as pets, but rats tend to be friendlier and can't escape as easily. My mice seam to be able to squeez out of anything. I should have named them both Houdini. I'd go with the rat. Make that two. They love company. Good luck.

They're both good little pets. Mice are better if you prefer a more "hamster-like" pet, since they are smaller and quicker, and have that docile face. They are intelligent and enjoy being handled, but as I said, they are quick, and would probably get away more easily. Also, mice only live around 1-2 years, maybe 3 if you are lucky.
