Which is better; a rat or a mouse2007-11-24 22:19:39

If you like something that is more like a guinea pig, the rat's probably better for you. They're bigger and easier to handle, and they're more content to just sit on your shoulder, while a mouse would like to scamper around and climb your body. Rats are smarter than you would think. My cousin compares hers to a dog, and is always talking about the cute things he does. He loves to sit on her shoulder and be fed maraschino cherries, hehe. =] Rats live about 2-3 years, sometimes 4.

In the end, it's really just about personal preference. Do you want a small, quick pet with a short lifespan, that is fascinating to watch but not really for cuddling?

Or a larger, more humorous pet, that will play with you happily, but has a longer committment time?

As long as you are ready for a pet, I'm sure you'll be very happy with whatever choice you make. They both and delightful animals that will bring you joy throughout their lives.

I had a pet rat, Dickens, and I loved her. She lived for about three years before she got cancer. She would love to run around my room and give me kisses. She would climb on me and ride on my shoulder around the house.

i personally think a mouse is better (not just because i have one) but because they are more friendly and have more of a personality. i think a mouse is more like a dog because they are adventurous and sweet. so i think you should go with a mouse. i love my mouse.

I like mice better, because they are nice and quiet and don't take up much room. They will sit on your shoulder! :). They are as nice as rats but I would get a mouse.
