hmmm.. if they are 9 and over then its fine.. make sure ur kids are mature and caring and not rough. somekids treat hamsters like pet dogs and tend to kill them.. explain to them how to treat hamsters.. i know hamstyers are the cutest thing in the world :)

i dont think it matters. i had a female and she was the sweetest thing. i just can't get over how big the male hamster's balls are...
with my experience male and female hampsters are no different. All hampsters have different attitudes it just depends on your luck of the draw.
A golden hamster not a dwarf they are nippy by breed. I have had tons of hamsters it doesn't matter male or female. Your local animal shelter may have adult hamsters they are good to start with considering baby hamsters are very wormy and run fast.
I've had 4 syrian hamsters, 2 of each gender. I personally like females better because they don't have giant testicles however I've the males I've had have been much better with people then again, the males I got were from someone who actually bred them because she loved them so they had a lot more human contact as babies.
Really what you want to look for is hamsters that have been bred by someone who doesn't do it for the money. Now I know this sounds kind of weird because they are "just hamsters" but they'll of been touched a lot more and be a lot more used to humans which will obviously make them more friendly. I'd suggest not going to say Petsmart or Petcertera, try a little independant pet store to buy them at and just hold them all and see which one you like the most. If you go to a petstore that isn't just part of a giant corportation they'll give you much better service and will let you hold them all.
Well males tend 2 b less aggressive. 4 starters though, get a dwarf hamster.
I'd say males because females could have babies unless u see a vet.
Doesn't really matter. Both pretty docile and need to be tamed.

I haven't had any problems with either sex, but my petsmart only sells females so I have 3 syrians, all in separate cages of course.
