Which is harder to take care of, a hamster or guniea pig
Hamsters take alot of time to try to get things cleaned and making sure they have food in their bowl (even tho they have a nice stash somewhere) and water. You can't keep more than one in a cage due to them fighting all the time when they get older. We tried this and didn't work. But a upside is they don't really need you around except for cleaning and feeding. So that makes it easier for that.
Guniea pigs are easier for cleaning (them and their cage) and feeding. They can be in a group if you get them from the same litter. They love to have another with them to play with. Just make sure to get 2 males or females and not one of each. Then you will have babies to deal with. Guniea pigs do need more room for living. I had 9 sq ft for 2 of them. I made the cage myself there are get tips online for making one. Also if you go with a guniea pig buy them from a breeder. They are cheaper and healthier. Most pet shop ones are not healthy or mean. Look to see signs of this. Ears with bite marks or look like they was in a fight with Mike Tyson where a chunk is missing from the ear.
Just remember no matter what one you pick. Have a big enough living area, food, water, and toys. Also give them 2 or 3 days without touching them so they can get use to their new home (looks, sounds, and smells). Then just reach in and don't grab them for a few days (giving a treat like a veggie or fruit). Just pet them while they are in their living area. If they run away let them be and come back and try later. If they do this every time you reach in for them try holding a treat. Then take them out of their living area and hold them. Do this for about 15 mins twice a day. Then every 3 or 4 days add like 10 mins with your pet. Also no matter what kind you get just make sure you have time to spend with them and the love to give and they will have it for you.
guinea pigs.
That's not to say they aren't the better pet though! They rarely bite (I've had 50 guineas which never bit but I've had 1 hamster that did bite). Guinea pigs are awake in the day, hamsters are nocturnal. Guinea pigs are more affectionate and will stay still on your lap whilst you hold and stroke them. Guinea pigs also make noises (or 'talk' to you). Guinea pigs live longer.
Hamsters require much less space and you only need one, whereas guinea pigs need to live with other guinea pigs.
Hope I helped!
