Which is the smarter species of hamsters2007-11-24 22:19:42

I have a black and white syrian hamster, and he's 4 months old.

I'm afraid that he won't learn his name. 'Cause it's about 3 months ago I'm trying to teach him, and I didn't get nothing yet...

But I won't give up, even if he was the silliest hamster ever!

I don't know about species, but female hamsters are really smart. I also noticed that after neutering my male hamster, he became as vivid and smart as his sister (I've witnessed position toys in order to climb over the 'fence' I built!)

Syrian hamsters are the most laid back of the hamster breed so may adapt more to what you want him to do. Hamsters suprising do respond to their name. They are partially blind so do rely on sound, smell and movememt. I have had my male syrian hamster a year now, and he always responds to his name being said and my voice in general.

just call his name everytime you see him, mine all know their names, i have 3 syrians, they are the easiest to deal with. you have to be social with them or they will be to themselves and not friendly.
