i am planing on getting one soon but i dotn want one that bites or doesnt bite alot

Answers:

A male long hair or golden Syrian hamster is the best choice. They are the least likely to bite, now the younger untamed ones may bite or nip at first until they get used to you. If you've never owned a hamster before, any nervousness is picked up by the hamster and will make them nervous of you as well. Of the 18 Syrian we have, 12 are males and 10 of those are long hairs. Rarely have we had any nipping from the older ones, now the babies (3 of them) took a few weeks to teach them we meant no harm and they now rarely nip also. Most bit due to the fear of something larger then they are so put yourself in their eye and try to see what they see which isn't too far also. They have limited vision and go by smell. So when taming the hamster, try offering a small treat or even piece of food to them for at least the first week (like a peace offering) before trying to pick the hamster up. We also had a trick of feeding them then picking them up with their pouches stuffed full. They have no chance of nipping or biting this way, but they may spit the food out some to try. We give lots of kisses and soft talking when in the process of taming too. It does help when they know their loved.

PS If one does nip, be careful not to throw or drop it, many do it as a reaction without meaning to. Start holding in the cage for safety at first or over a bed.

a tame hamster! haha, you just have to handle them alot and get them young. dont touch the hamster if its sleeping, and try not to do anything to statle it. they dont bite that hard anyways. i have a teddy bear hamster and he has never bitten me, he is just a chill layed back guy.

Roborovski hamster is least likely to bite, a little more expensive and not all pet shops sell them but worth the price.
