Which lettuce is good for guinea pigs2007-11-24 22:19:42

I have found that my pigs definitely do not like strawberries, oranges, grapefruit, tomatoes.

GOOD lettuce - Romaine

BAD lettuce - Iceburg

It won't kill a guinea pig to give them a tiny bit of Iceburg (say... half a leaf) but only about ONCE a week.

Rabbits & guinea pigs are similar in that too much of the wrong lettuce is bad for them. I don't own guinea pigs, but have always, and still do, own rabbits. I give my rabbits lettuce quite often, but never iceberg lettuce! The easy rule to remember is that the darker green or red the lettuce is, the better it is as it has more nutrients. Iceberg isn't suitable for them at all.

I had a guinea pig for 5 years and i gave her lettuce all the time and nothing bad ever happened to her. i would buy a head of dole lettuce and take some of it off and feed it to her and it would last a while and she really liked it

I have four guinea pigs and I feed them with lettuce, it has to be Romain lettuce, that's the one they like a lot. Lettuce is not bad for them its their favorite food, you also go to the supermarket of your preference and buy these bags that comes with lettuce, bits of; carrot,onion and other stuff that they like and its cheaper also.

I think you should substitute cabbage for lettuce, it has vitamin C which is essential for guinea pigs and mine used to love it.

My guinea pigs have always eaten lettuce, it just depends on the type. I give my iceberg every once in a while. If I give it more often it seems to make them pee and poo more. But I usually give them a mix that the market calls Field greens, it's romaine, endive, radicchio and Red leaf. He loves it. Also the spring mix is pretty good for them, but it's a bit pricey.

Fruit; like apple, Orange, and all that stuff But not LEMON!

Veggies; Broccoli, Lettuce, LOOVVEEE Carrot and Lettuce

They absolutely LOVE THOSE!
