their cage.They smell!I know cuzz I had one.

But if you can't stand the smell,get a Guinea pig.

I agree with Leslie B. Rats are not meant to be pets. But choosing which pet is best for you is really up to you.

Guinea pigs are intelligent as well.

If you aren't sure you should definitely do more research on the pros and cons of having either one before you spend the money on either.

You may discover that you are a bird person or a fish person. Check out some books on Rats as a domestic pet and guinea pigs and read up on them.

A hamster may be more your speed. They are definitely cheaper in cost and maintenance and just as fun.

Yeah, I'm casting another vote for neither and getting a dog! A good dog can be loyal, loving, good companion and generally help keep you in good spirits. A rat or guinea pig are more for just entertainment! Plus, a dog will usually live longer.

We had a guinea pig for a short while, one of my kids pet. She was 11. It was cute and like-able, but it got over heated and died even though my mother and I tried to cool it down and make it comfortable. It left me with the impression that they are rather delicate.
