Which makes a better pet2007-11-24 22:19:43

I have rats. Right now I have 6, 3 boys and 3 girls. They are my favorite. They are smart and friendly, they love and need time out of the cage and like to interact with their human. Or humans. They don't need as much space as a guinea pig, although they do need roomy cages, and it's far better to have more than one. I live in a small apartment ,but I never considered getting a guinea pig. I just didn't see them as very companionable like rats.

Nothing is sweeter that a sleepy little ratty waking up, stretching and yawning, and wanting to be held.

rats are usally inexpensive i mean if your getting one i don't think the rat and all the things it needs will go over 40$ the rat only costs 10 to 15 depending where you get it(ratteries are best i've heard). rats are smart and can be trained to cuddle i never had a guinea pig so i don't know about them but rats are really cool pets , they are clean too, u can make rat toys your self with clean house hold things like unpreasure threated wood, clean rope or sholace walnuts, you can feed them table scraps too as long as u pay attetion to what your giving them my rat lives in old rabbit cage and some wood i nailed together i got from home depot but you can buy houses for them although it wa salot cheaper to make it myself . hope that helps
i have had both they are both great. but if i got another it would be a guinea pig they are like babies depending on you for there care. this is how much i paid although you can pay less. for a cage i paid $100for a cage, food $4,water bottle $1 hay i i buy a big bag for $8 u should always have hay available. bowl2$ brush comb $2 nail clippers 70 cents. i have 2 guinea pigs the cheapest one was about 20$, House big enough for them to sleep in is 15$. they are expensive but once you get one it pays off they are wonderful.
I have pet rats and love them. They make great pets. Better than guinea pigs I think, I have had one before. Plus rats are cheaper and easier to care for. Smaller = less food, less poop, less matinence. If you have a good sized cage, they don't get smelly, as long as you keep it clean. They are cute and fun with great personalities. But if you go with a rat- I suggest getting 2 (if you think that you can handle it) Not that it is much more work or anything, but if you think you can't, don't. But rats are social creatures and are much happier with friends. Make sure they are the same sex though! Or you will be in for a world of trouble, lol trust me. PS, if you have room: mine love hammoks in their cage. I think it makes their cage seem bigger because there is a 2nd story, lol. Good luck though, in any case. Whichever you choose. Just make sure to give your pet/pets lots of love and play time out of the cage so they don't get aggressive. (this goes for guinea pigs and rats) It's best to hold them at least once or twice a day for 1/2 to 1 hour each time- everyday.
