guinea pigs! they are very cute large [east to find when lost] bites only when threatened. rats ewww they are nasty you never find them when lost bite when they feel like it.

Well, out of guinea pigs or rats I would say guinea pigs because rats are ugly and disgusting and gross and smell bad.

But I think the best pets are dwarf hamsters

I would DEFINITLY get a guinea pig. I have a about four year old guinea pig (Comet), and i've had him since he was a baby, he instantly became my best friend. He knows quite a few tricks, and waits at the door of his cage for me to home home. The guinea pig costs about $29.99, the cage costs about $50. Toys vary, my guinea pig doesnt like ANY store bought toys, he is satisfied with a empy toilet paper roll (he likes to chew on it) and an igloo (about $8). I have tried to spoil him with all kinds of toys, but he doesnt like any... His favorite game is tag around the dining table, he is really just full of fun!

Guinea pigs are really loyal pets, he is just like my puppy, except for the size and work. They really dont smell bad, i clean Comet's cage about once every 2 weeks, and usually it is fine and doesnt smell too bad during that time. It takes 10 min. maximum to clean guinea pig's cages, and it isnt a messy process.

The bedding is the most expensive part of having a guinea pig, but you would need it for a rat too, it cost's about $12 a month. I would definitly encourage you to get a guinea pig and be charmed for as long as you have it. :)

id say guineapigs...cheap and easy to look after. good lawnmowers. and theyre great for younger kids-they dont squish easily and dont bite much. guineapigs are pretty intelligent [though one of mine still believes she can fly-she'll jump off tables] and will sit still in your lap
