Hello, I have breed both. Hamsters are simple to take care of, live for a short amount of time and are nocturnal and sleep all day. They are fun to have and much more active because of their size at night. They can run 3 miles non stop on a hamster wheel in ONE night! Their lifespan is from 2 - 3 years but some have lived longer. I had a syrian male that lived to be 6. I took extremly good care of him though.

Guinea pigs make awsome pets. They stink but if you clean them daily. They make awsome pets. I have never been bit by one and they are known not to bit unlike hamsters. Therefore making them great for small children. They come in many different colors and patterns including styles of hair. They have a higher life expectancy. 5 - 8 years is common for guinea pigs. They do have something that you have to pay attention to in their diet. They have high Vitamin C requirements. You could pick up a bottle from Petsmart or any petstore. Also citris fruits and carrots, anything that is really orange in color is good for them. They love their fruits and veggies and must have a serving each day. Its neat how they know your voice or squeek (like a pig, they also eat like pigs) when a bag rattles. Guniea pigs are also companion animals, they need lots of attention and its best to keep two females together males will fight. Unless they are siblings.they sometimes get along than.
