Why Did my Pregnant Rat Die Unexpectedly
I had and very Expected Pregnant female rat about to have babies within days, about a few days later she was throwing up
water , or something clear?
Then when she was still be sick and trowing up clear fluid, she would rest , drink more water, then eat , and throw up clear fluid or water again?
I thought that this was normal , because when my dog was pregnant near her due date she threw-up too , same clear stuff, i guess?
Then next morning I went to go check on her and she wasn't moving, i mean even one of the grose male rats were licking her eye-balls? EWWWWW!
I sall that she was dead, but how ? she was fine, and before she died you could see her babies moving inside her when she would lay on her back.
How did she die? I was thinking that the Nosy-As-Hell Neightbors came over during the middle of the night and poisoned her, but if they did they would all be dead, ( because their cage is outside) I know it would be very hot outside, because I live in TX.....
Answers:The usual way that a female rat dies during a pregnancy is a build-up of toxins in her blood from possibly a baby dieing inuterus and setting up an infection. What you said about her drinking too much water and throwing it up, alerted me that that is a symptom for pyometra. And I've been through it with rats, twice.

If her pyometra was internal you would have never seen any outword sign, but usually there is a vaginal discharge that will alert you that something is very wrong.
