I've had two girls with pyometra, but I caught them both in time and emergency spays saved both their lives.

Jana had a pyometra that was internal, but when one baby was born and no more, I got suspicious and rushed her to the vet. She only had a 50/50 chance of making it through even though I had caught it.

I've gotten very sensitive about my pregnant girls after years of breeding. You get a feeling about what's going on with their health after a few pregnancies.

I just remembered who you are! :) I've tried to give you professional advice in some of your other rat-related questions. Since you keep your rats outside on just newspaper, there could be a whole host of reasons why the pregnant mother would have died, including heat prostration.

Do you really think that your neighbours would poison her? Your tone indicates that you are, and rightly so, upset and angry right now :(

It might even be that her babies would have died, if they had been born and been left exposed to the weather. Domestic rats don't have the coping skills for outside living like their wild counterparts do.

maybe she had a huge litter in her womb, didnt have any room for food/water? the clear stuff might be stomach acid (if they have any) which has digested the food/water.
