Why are albino domestic rats relatively common
Sadly, it's because of this commoness that they are the first picked for reptile food.

Albino (c/c) is recessive means that they are not expressed, you cannot see them on the animal, unless that animal has inherited two copies, one from each parent.

PEW is dominant.
Edit:
Cat I agree with you since you are referring to Albinos. I was referring to Pink Eyed Whites and they are two different beasties.
If your information is about rats could you please site your source? Thank you :) I'm always wanting to learn more.
I can't answer your question about the white mice but I'm guessing that it's the same.

"my life has gone to the rats"
I don't know that they are common. Are you sure this is true? Owning three albinos still doesn't make them common, after all you chose those to be your pets.
albino rats are rare in the wild domestic rats that u buy at pet shops and such are usually whit because they have been genetically changed people change them to produce mor babbies but a side affectt is that most babys turn out whit that is also why u never buy a rat from a pet shop go to a rat breeder u can get more coloer and types from them
Because people breed them together to produce white rats and mice rather than natural brown ones which look like wild rats.
